TEEN ROAD TEST REQUIREMENTS


Teen road test requirements vary depending on whether the teen completed an Instructor Led Driver Education Course or Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Course. A check (or x) next to Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Course on the driver education certificate signifies that the course is Parent Taught. The absence of a check (or x) next to Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Course on the driver education certificate signifies that the course is Instructor Led.

IMPORTANT: Please carefully review the road test requirements for teens outlined below. It is the student's responsibility to ensure all prerequisites are met and that all required documents are submitted online and hard copies are brought in on the day of the road test. The driving school will not be able to conduct the road test if any required documents are missing, incomplete, or incorrect. In such cases, the test will need to be rescheduled, and an additional fee of $45 will apply.

ROAD TEST REQUIREMENTS FOR TEEN INSTRUCTOR LED COURSE

IMPORTANT: Teen must be at least 16 years of age and must have held the permit for at least 6 months in order to be eligible to take the road test. 

Teen must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to the road test and present the following documents:

  • A valid Texas Learner's Permit
  • Texas Driver License Application for Minor | Example Blank Form
  • IMPACT Texas Teen Driver (ITTD) Certificate | Example | Course
  • Texas Driver Education Certificate (32-hour class) | Example
  • 30-hour BTW Driving Log | Example | Blank Form
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (if using your own vehicle)
  • If student took driving lessons at another school, then the student must also present:
    • DE-964 Certificate from the other school |  Example
    • 7-hr BTW &7-hr Observation Log from other school |  Example

  • A valid Texas Learner's Permit
  • IMPACT Texas Adult Driver (ITAD) Certificate | Example | Course
  • Students ages 18-24 must also present their 6-hour Classroom Driver Education Certificate | Example 
  • Texas Driver License Application for Adult | Example | Blank Form

IMPORTANT: If you started your driving education program as a teen and now you are an adult, all requirements of teen persist.  If you chose to, you can circumvent the teen requirements is to take the 6-hour adult driver-education course.
